Opportunity
  • Join our Community Services Underwriting Team in the pursuit of growth, operational excellence, and superior technical underwriting by establishing a culture of consistent training and development.
  • Operate as a Specialist in the execution of training needs, large and complex insurance underwriting, guideline improvement, and auditing in an efficient and effective manner
  • Includes engaging, coaching, and mentoring the team, participating in projects and special initiatives.

  • Act as a technical line resource to the underwriting teams, marketing, and clients when required.  
  • Conducting research on various topics relating to property and casualty insurance.
  • Reviewing and approving underwriting referrals. Communicating with Partner Insurers as required.
  • When required, assist on underwriting reviews by auditing files and providing effective feedback.
  • Contribute to the development of training material and conduct seminars with the training consultants.
  • Assist with the evaluation of new and emerging product opportunities. 
  • Keep up to date on industry news and the provincial insurance acts.

What you bring to the table
  •  Minimum 10 years of senior commercial underwriting experience, including a strong background with large specialty insurance.
  • (F)CIP designation an asset and preferred.

The Underwriting Trainee Program is a twenty-four month accelerated learning experience designed to give you unparalleled expertise and grow your career in an exciting industry.  In this rotational program, mentors, managers, and underwriting coaches will teach you the ins and outs of our specialty insurance business through a variety of learning styles.

What exactly is Intact Public Entities?  And what does an underwriter do? 

IPE is a distribution channel within the Speciality Solutions division of Intact. We are a wholly owned Managing General Agent who specializes in Municipal, Public Administration and Community Services business.  Our book contains complex and large property to high abuse exposures and challenging liability spanning many different coverage offerings.

Our Underwriters understand our products inside and out.  As a member of the team, you’d become a champion of risk assessment and work directly with IPE’s network of Brokers – the people who sell our products to businesses or municipalities– to make sure they understand the products, know how to market them, and help them to evaluate the potential risks of taking on certain portfolios.

Through this program, you will:

  • Learn the technical aspects of insurance: assessing and evaluating risk to make empowered decisions; and how to quote, negotiate and authorize new business.
  • Learn in inspiring ways - classroom, on-the-job and self-study – in a collaborative work environment.
